Kick with pop-up or guid with notification?

A case that I really liked not only in terms of the result, but also the process. I love when the contractor does not take the position “here is your technical description, so here is the result”, but offers alternative options. Within reasonable limits, of course, because the opposite position “We know better how you need it” is not working well for me.

So, here is the problem:
People from all kinds of funds, evaluating Polymetal from the point of view of ESG reporting, crawl into the annual report, find the corresponding block there, and diligently write off the numbers. Moreover, if something is not found, they write that we did not provide information and give us zero points.

But in addition to the annual report, we also have a social report. However, analysts do not bother to search, or they might used to integrated reporting. And therefore our ESG management has to conduct heartfelt conversations with them.

Objective: to make sure that social reports are also paid attention to by those who look at the annual figures. So they understand that there are more necessary numbers.

Of course, we had had a linking of sections — it is written on the page at the very beginning — look for social reports in the section of social reports.

Solution: we did not merge the two sections, because, firstly, it would violate the logic of the site, secondly, it would turn the page into a mess, and thirdly, it would not solve the main problem — the user still won’t know that those the same figures, but in more detail, are disclosed in the social report.

I suggested doing tough: block downloads with a pop-up window, where there would be a link to a social report and an explanation — ‘don’t be lazy, look here’. And until the person clicks “Ok, I got it”, nothing will be downloaded. But the project manager from the side of the contractor (we have “Zebra”) spoke in the sense that such a window is too aggressive towards the user (which, by the way, indirectly confirmed that my idea was good). And she offered an alternative — a pop-up notification.

I disagreed with the main message because I believe pop-ups at the right time and in the right place work perfect. However, I agreed to try a notification implementation.

Result: when you click on the ‘Download’, the file with the annual report is downloaded at the background. At the same time, a notification appears, where:

· There is a link to the social report of the same year

· There is a link to download ESG datapack — this is Excel with all the main figures in historical retrospective

· There is a link to the section with social reports

And all this is spiced up with a short explanation.

Of course, it is possible for user to hide show this message in the future (you must check the corresponding checkbox).

In my opinion, it turned out very elegantly.

You can check it here (try downloading any report):

https://www.polymetalinternational.com/en/investors-and-media/reports-and-results/annual-reports/

and here (by the way, note that even the tab on the same page was still ignored): https://www.polymetalinternational.com/en/investors-and-media/disclosure-center/annual-reports/

Let’s see how it works. But I plan to apply the mechanics in other sections as well. Of course, everything is linked with to the CMS and adapted for mobile viewing.
